    • But you will need to ask for them during birth 🙋 Most major hospitals are going to have several tools available to help you through labor. They aren't always offered because it's assumed you will ask if you want to use them. All four can be helpful in comfort and positioning. The right positions at the right time can speed labor along and help baby engage properly. Try the fitness ball and peanut ball, especially in early labor. They can help you incorporate movement and proper positioning. A birth stool or squat bar can be useful for active labor or pushing. Trust your instincts. A woman in labor often knows how she needs to move. Your body knows even when your mind doesn't. 🙌🏽🙌🏾🙌🏿 #birth #laboranddelivery #doula
    • Squat bars are a great tool for a variety of labor and birth positions. Most hospitals have squat bars available, though you may need to ask for them. They don't usually have rebozo's (though a seasoned nurse may use a bed sheet). Comment rebozo if you want to know which one is best, and I'll send you a link Use a squat bar however it feels right in the moment. Your body knows what it needs to do. Follow that intuition! 💞 Some of my most favorites are: 1. Leaning over the bar for support during contractions. This frees up the bottom half of the body to sway uninhibited. 2. Holding the bar to add movement while in the bed or to use as leverage while positioning for pushing. 3. Using the bar as solid support for rebozo work. Again, this gives a little more leverage and room for you to move as you need. #birthpreparation #laboranddelivery #babynurse #doula #birthdoula #birth
    • A few months into new motherhood with my first baby, I looked around the room, laughed, and thought, "We haven't used any of this stuff." I thought it was just me. I now know it's mothers everywhere. That beautiful nursery we work so hard to create may sit empty for several months. That's okay. It's also okay to sink time and money into all those baby products, but also know there's certainly no rush. Essentials is what you and your baby will use most the first few months. And if I could encourage all new mothers in what to buy, it would be to focus also on what YOU will need postpartum. Pericare stuff, nursing tanks, nipple cream, ice packs, etc. Moms focus so much on what their babies will need, but it's important not to forget what they will need to recover in postpartum too. #newborn #postpartum #fourthtrimester

    • How to make a birth plan! Here's a list of questions to ask when you are considering options: 🍥What are the benefits of what I'm considering? 🍥What are the risks? 🍥What does the evidence say? 🍥What are the alternatives? 🍥What does my gut say? Example Situations💡: newborn procedures, pain management, placenta care, pushing techniques Doing your own research can be empowering. Talking to a trusted healthcare team, whether that be a nurse, OB, midwife, or doula, is also a great option. And ask questions. Lots of them! #birthplan #babynurse #postpartumnurse #birth #doula
    • Anybody else 🙋‍♀️ Even though it's dorky, the saying "motion is lotion" is the truth in labor. Laying still (with or without an epidural) often slows the labor process down. The body instinctively knows how to move for the pelvis to open and baby to move through it for birth. You know YOU better than anyone. Move when you can. Rest when you feel it's best.
