    • Yes and yes.

Cons: When a pacifier is introduced before breastfeeding is well established, it can make it difficult for a baby to return to breastfeeding. This leads to a frustrated baby (and mama).

Pros: Giving a pacifier decreases the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and can soothe a baby in between feedings.

Most lactation consultants recommend waiting until your baby is 4 weeks old to introduce a pacifier. It's safe to do so sooner if your baby is latching well, gaining weight, and you aren't in pain while nursing.

All babies are different. Some do great with pacis early on and some don't.

How did it go with your baby??

    • Skin-to-Skin is when your undressed baby snuggles on mom or dad's bare chest. It is good for all babies whether breast or formula feeding, and should be continued throughout infancy.

Babies love to feel your skin and hear your heartbeat. It reminds them of the womb, and may instantly calm them. It may also help your baby nurse better if they are struggling.

    • I know you.

Those kicks. Those knees. Those hands. The soft rolls you would do in my belly.

You know me.

My voice. My heartbeat. My scent.

You instantly calmed to the sound of my whispers. You knew I was safe as your ear rested against my chest. You even recognized my smell. You knew right away you were home.

Home. Forever home. Forever your mother, my beloved baby.

    • If you are asking yourself if you are a good mom, then you are. My dear friend @rachaelhuntelmore taught me that.

Bad moms don't care. They don't try. They don't worry that they aren't enough, or that they aren't doing it right.

You're a good mom if you are trying.

I believe there is always room to work on ourselves, to get whole, to grow, and to learn to connect better with our families...to love wholeheartedly.

But the drive to improve should be a signal that you ARE already doing well, even if you're a work in progress.

Here's a secret. We all are.

  • You aren't supposed to "bounce back" at the expense of healing properly.

It took over nine months for your body to prepare to birth your baby. We shouldn't expect or require it to recover in a short amount of time.

A few things that take time to heal:
🤍The uterus is contracting and shrinking to fit back into the pelvis.
🤍The placenta left a wound in the uterus that must heal.
🤍 The pelvic floor muscles need to heal from the baby navigating past them.
🤍The abdominal wall is moving back into place, along with your ribs.

You didn't get here overnight, and you won't go back overnight. Progress, not perfection is the goal.
